Amie

Aug 20 1979 - Nov 28 1999

Don't think of me as gone away
My journey's just begun,
Life holds so many facets
This earth is but one.

Just think of me as resting
From the sorrows and the tears,
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years.

Think of how I must be wishing
That you could know today,
How nothing but your sadness
Can really go away.

And think of me as living
In the hearts of those I touched,
For nothing loved is ever lost
And I know I was loved so much.

This site is a tribute to a beautiful young woman who was taken from this world and her loved ones when, at the age of 20 she was killed in a car accident. Amie was born in Australia on the same day as her lifelong best friend Kylie, during her childhood and teen years Amie lived in Australia and New Zealand. At the age of 15 Amie was diagnosed with Leukemia, a disease she fought bravely until just after her 20th birthday when her doctors officially recognised her as being in remission.

During the time of her illness Amie met a young man from the USA on the net, over time online friendship developed into true love. Amie and Erick shared everything possible over the net, Erick wanting so badly to fly to the other side of the world to meet Amie in real life. At Amie's insistence Erick agreed to wait until Amie was no longer receiving treatment before he flew out to meet her. In November 1999 Erick was only a month away from flying to Australia to meet Amie, by this time they were engaged and were planning to be married in March 2000.

Amie and Kylie used to joke that they were born on the same day, did everything together and would die on the same day, little did they know that their prophecy was to come true. On November 28 1999, just 3 weeks before Erick was due to visit, Amie, Kylie, Amie's brother and a friend were involved in a car accident, that claimed both Amie and Kylie's life.

The world and those who loved Amie lost a vibrant, fun loving and talented young woman, daughter, fiance, sibling and friend. Amie loved to sing and had a beautiful singing voice, she enjoyed parties and being with people, she also had a gift for expressing herself freely through her poetry. If you are a praying person please pray for Erick and Amie's family and friends, but most of all please take from Amie's story an appreciation for the preciousness of life, both yours and those you love. Don't wait until tomorrow to do or say what can be done or said today, because we never know if tomorrow will come.

From Erick

Meeting Amie was a breath of much needed fresh air in my stale life. I was unhappy with where I was going. I didn't like myself, and when I met her it turned me around. I looked forward to waking up each day. Every moment spent with her is one I will treasure forever. Being with her made me realize that life is good. Never look back and seize each moment like it is your last.

Looking back on our relationship there is not one thing I regret, or one thing left unsaid. We had our fights and our arguments but it always turned out fine. I never thought I would know truly unconditional love but I found it in Amie and I will carry it with me in my heart and soul until the end of time.

We broke all the rules of engagement. Hell I helped her pick out her wedding dress. Our whole life was ahead of us. Together.

Amie was and always will be the the love of my life. We were totally and completely comfortable with each other. There was nothing about me she didn't know and nothing about her that I didn't know. My heart will always be hers. Having what Amie and I did, I just can't imagine life without her, it feels so empty and so pointless. It's like I'm just existing to pass the time until I can be with her again.

Amie, just so you know I will always love you, and one day we will be together forever. With all my love and affection, your love, in this life and beyond. I love you My Sweet Little Angel, always and forever.

Erick & Amie's Story

Erick's Writing & Poems to Amie

From Shari
How this page came about

Almost a year ago I was surfing the net and found a beautiful poem called "Heaven Online", I copied it and decided to make it into a page for my own site. When the page was created I added a script asking that if anyone knew who the author of this beautiful poem was would they please let me know. Heaven Online rapidly became my most popular page, the sentiments expressed in the poem obviously had an impact on many people and the page was sent around the world many, many times. I had received many lovely emails from people thanking me for supplying a poem that expressed so well what they were feeling and wanted to express to their net friends.

Early in December I received an email from a woman who had, less than 2 weeks earlier lost her 20 year old daughter (Amie) and her daughters best friend (Kylie) in a car accident. The girls were born on the same day and had been friends all their lives, they had gone out together one Sunday morning and never came home again. Shortly after Amie's death her Mum and a close friend were going through Amie's things and they came across a book of poems, among the poems was one called "Heaven Online". Amies friend immediately remembered having seen the poem on my website, she was able to find my page again and showed it to Amie's Mum. It was from here that she emailed me.

It appears that Amie had written the "Heaven Online" poem for her online boyfriend Erick, who lived on the other side of the world. If you haven't already read it, take the time to read Erick's poignant story about how he and Amie found true love on the net only to have it taken away from them before it was realised in real life.

Since the first email from Amie's Mum I have (via ICQ) come to know Amie's Mum, her Mum's partner Eric (yes another Eric, confusing isn't it), Amie's cousin and friend Sarah and ofcourse the young man who was the love of Amie's life, Erick. I cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering this family and Erick have been through, and are going through at the moment. I have come to know them just a little over the last few weeks, they have all painted for me a picture of a vibrant, talented and loving young woman.

Amie was a very attractive young woman, who loved life and people with all her heart, who could sing beautifully and through her poetry express her feelings very well. She adored Erick, of that there is no doubt. It is obvious to me from what those who love her have said, that she was a loving and caring friend and girlfriend, as well as a much loved daughter. It seems such a inconsolable loss that Amie survived near death with Leukemia only to be killed in a car accident. Who can ever proclaim to understand all the ways of the world?

To Erick

When Amie was so very sick with Leukemia she saved a file on her computer to be sent to Erick if she died, among other things in that folder was a poem titled "When Tomorrow Starts Without Me". To view the poem click on the link below

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me

To Her Mum

Amie and her Mum had a very close relationship, quite some time ago Amie gave her Mum a poem. We don't know if it is one she wrote herself or not, but it is one that Amie's Mum treasured and carried with her. To view it click on the link (Mum) below.

Amie has left footprints on many peoples hearts.
After death she came into my life and left them
on mine. Perhaps in some way through this site
she will do the same for you.
